Don AllanAllow me to introduce myself. I am Don Allan, a long time farmer and let me tell you, I love what I do. From 1972 to 1987 I operated up to 3,000 acres of land in the Bentley area until the farm sold in 1987. In 2003 I returned to farming southwest of Sylvan Lake on a mixed grain and hay farm with a friend. In 2008 we split the operation into grain owned and operated by my friend and hay operated by myself. That year we put up 800 acres of first cut and 400 acres of second cut hay in both large round and small square bales.
Some of you may know me and for others this is our first meeting, I hope that for all of you this website becomes a helpful resource for you.

I would also like to note that this website is updated periodically, so make sure you check back from time to time. I am working towards building a website that will not only provide you with products to purchase, but also provide you with many helpful and interesting resources and information. is not only the address of our website but is our registered farming business name with the Province of Alberta.

In 2009 we expanded our business to include partners, Ken and Randi Scheffelmaier, who have extensive farming background in the Brownfield area of Alberta. They still own land there but reside at Sylvan Lake. Ken is well known in Central Alberta as a business developer having experience in the construction field. He brings his people skills into as forage buyer and field man. Randi, along with my wife Helen, handles bookkeeping responsibilities.

Larry Olnick, a long time friend and local farmer, is a key person in the operation of as the gentleman who delivers the bales to the customers and has time for a chat. Larry is a retired high school automotives instructor who is known and appreciated by many throughout Central Alberta. We are privileged to have him contracted to operate our trucks as a Class 1 Driver.

We have sold hay, straw and greenfeed to customers across Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Northwest Territories. From Calgary in the south to Yellowknife in the north, from the Princeton Region in the west to Wiseton, SK in the east, customers have come to appreciate our fine hay and friendly service. The feedback from our customers continues to be a real encouragement to us. Most of previous years' customers keep coming back for their current year's needs.

International sales to the United States of America and other countries are referred to our export agent who handles the negotiations and logistics on our behalf.

Prices vary with week to week local market conditions and estimated protein content, bale weight, condition, etc. Delivery is available from rates as low as $10.00 per round bale (fluctuates with current fuel price and varies with size of load, bale weight, distance, etc.) and $1.00 per small square bale. Our load sizes range from 1 to 34 bales for rounds and 20 to 1000 for small squares. Round bales weighed to date range from 1,000 to 1,800 pounds with most of them weighing 1,150 to 1,350 lb.

Moisture content is below 15% on most bales at time of baling. Most of the feed analyses show moisture to be about 10%.

Feed analysis: Done on a request basis. To view some of our feed analyses click here.

Friends and neighbours who put up first cut hay with their own equipment in small squares look to us to assist them in the marketing of their hay.

I have been a hay grower since I started haying with my father on his farm at Bentley in the late 1950s. It has always been a joy to produce the best hay that we could as we worked with the meteorologists who endeavor to give us the best forecast from day to day.

We look forward to hearing from you via telephone at 403-896-1762.
